SABUKIDAGAT, in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, is a combination and shortened form of two words, “Sa Bukid – At the Farm” and “Sa Dagat – At the River/Sea“. The words explain the work of the Founding Members in addressing the situation of the Farmers of the Land and Sea in the Agriculture and Fisheries Industries.

SABUKIDAGAT, with its international affiliates and subsidiaries, intends to address the needs of the farmers of the land and sea, inspired, and in support of targets outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It aims to propose innovative and sustainable solutions suitable for islands in the Asia-Pacific region to create smart, inclusive and thriving island societies.

SABUKIDAGAT as a solutions provider, will bridge islands, the countries of ASEAN and the world in its advocacy to manage Food Security and mitigate and alleviate Poverty.

As SABUKIDAGAT is based in the Philippines, within the ASEAN region, the Philippines will be our Gateway for SABUKIDAGAT‘s projects to the ten-member countries of ASEAN, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines (entry-point), Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Philippines is currently experiencing strength in its domestic economy, driven by household consumption and government spending. It has an average GDP growth in the last five years of 6.5% and is one of the top economies of the ASEAN region. Malaysia posted an average growth of 5.2%, Indonesia 5%, Thailand 3.1% and Singapore 3%.
